Our guess is that someone in the Navy intercepted these envelopes and sent them home or to a relative. If Edwin Lyons was a collector, we likely would have seen more covers like these. This is only our guess. |

The cover at the right shows an additional rubber stamp right below the capsule. It says, "Date of Recovery" "West of Intl Dateline" This has been noticed on covers postmarked on several different ships. It is believed that it was added by a collector. We don't think Beck applied this. |
